Abstract

The insufficiency ar the stenose of natural cardiac valves cause serious cardiac damages. To avoid this, usually it is necessary to substitute the natural valve by a prostheses, in spite of they are different from the natural ones, this cause alterations in the blood flow. A Cardiac Simulator was developed to study the fluid dynamics characteristics of the existents prostheses, and also to aid in the project of new models. This Simulator affords conditions to the prostheses alike the physiological conditions, permiting a qualitative and quantitative analyse of the fluid dynamics caracteristics, just as: the valve opening and closing time, the reflux volume that is necessary to a total valve closing, the liquid return volume during the time in that the prostheses stay closed, the flow turbulences, the flow stagnation zones and the pressure gradients existents between the points before and after the valves.
