Abstract

It is presented a Methodology based on Microcomputer controlled instrumentation to determine the electrical impedance, the electromechanical coupling coeficient, the capacitance and the mechanical quality factor of piezoelectric Materials used to construct ultrasonic transducer for medical equipments. A set of 10 (ten) national ceramics is tested and the results indicate that the electromechanical coupling factor is lower than what is usually found in the literature and the Mechanical quality fator has about 40% dispersion around its Mean value. Nevertheless, if an adequate quality control is used to chose the ceramics then they can be used in the construction of ultrasonic medical equipments.
