Abstract

A dialysis system (SO) and a ultrafiltration system (SUF) were constructed at the Membrane Laboratory (COPPE-UFRJ) to measure diffusive permeability, rejection and hydraulic permeability of polymeric membranes. The systems (SO and SUF) work in the blood physiological and in the working conditions of the clinical treatment (hemodialysis and hemofiltration), affording measures of the port properties with isolated action of each driving force centration gradient and pressure transmembrane gradient). The apparatus were calibrated and the tests were standardized to blood simulations with binary solutions of "sma 11 molecules" (urea, creatinine, sucrose), "middle molecules" (inulin, dextran) and "large molecules" (bovine serum albumin). The assaies were carried out by differential refractometry, on the SO (conti.!!. uous) and on the SUF (by injection). The CUPROPHAN (regenerated cellulose) and the RP-AN69 (poly~ crilonitrile) membranes were characterized by SO and SUF and the comparison of the results with the literature had shown satisfa~ tory fitness of these test systems to characterize membranes for artificial kidney application.
